Hydration and your Dog

     How much water does your Dog need? For those of you who live in Oklahoma you know it gets really hot without much warning. Hello, “feels like 100” in the beginning of June! So making sure your dog has enough water is extremely important. Here are a few tips to help make sure thats the case.

           How much water does your Dog need? For those of you who live in Oklahoma you know it gets really hot without much warning. Hello, “feels like 100” in the beginning of June! So making sure your dog has enough water is extremely important. Here are a few tips to help make sure thats the case.

1. Have water accessible at all times. Whether your dog is inside or outside, have a bowl of water easy accessible. You can do this by having multiple bowls. When dogs are "feeling" the heat they may not want to walk as far. Having options helps keep them hydrated. Going to run errands? Make sure you bring water along with you for a quick drink on the road. Taking a walk? Great! Dogs lose alot of water while exercising; make sure to bring plenty of water to offer along the walk. 
2. Keep an eye on how much they are peeing. The more water they drink, the more times a day they will go to the bathroom. If they are going multiple times a day, thats great! A dog that is dehydrated (or on the way) will not have motivation to get up and go. Keep a look out!
3. If your dog is eating dry kibble, try adding alittle bit of water. Or, even better, try feeding them a wet dog food.
4. Try making dog friendly popsicles! Popsicles can be made out of any pet-friendly foods like fruit, peanut butter, vegetables, or even just plain old water. It will help them with their water intake as well as giving them a healthy snack.
