Summer may not be here quite yet, but the last couple weeks has sure felt like it! The heat can be uncomfortable and even dangerous for your dogs. It is very important to take note of the temps and how they can affect your pup.
Here are a few tips to help keep your dogs safe this summer.

Safety Tips
  • Never Leave your Dog in a Parked Car
    • For example, On an 87-degree day the temperature inside a car with the windows opened slightly can reach 104 degrees within 10 minutes. That kind of heat can cause irreversible organ damage and even death.
  • Provide Ample Amount of Water
    • Your dog needs plenty of clean, cool water to stay hydrated. Try using a large, deep bowl for their water bowl. This will allow the water the stay colder longer.
  • Protect your Dogs Paws
    • If you’re not sure if the pavements are too hot, place the back of your hand on the ground for ten seconds. If you struggle to hold it down, it’s too hot to walk your dog. Also, take a look at their paws after walks to make sure their is no damage. Nowadays there is wax or even pads you can purchase to protect them.
  • Change up their Exercise
    • On very hot days, limit exercise to early morning or evening hours. And when you do exercise, make sure to bring water along.
    • When its warmer try going for a short walk instead of a run.

**Also, it is very important to know the signs of heatstroke.
Symptoms include
  • excessive panting
  • drooling
  • very red gums
  • vomiting or diarrhea
  • weakness.
