Halloween can be enjoyable for everyone including your dog. However, there are a few things to keep in mind on Halloween night that will help your pup have fun.

1. One of the most common worries for dogs is the stress caused by Halloween. The main one being the doorbell ringing as people start trick or treating. this can not only be loud but confusing. The constant opening and closing of the door can also provide an opportunity for a frightened animal to run out into a dark night.
The safest option for your pet is to provide them with a safe area of their own. Turning on music or the TV can help mask the sounds of the doorbell ringing, and some of the unusual noises associated with Halloween festivities.

2. Keep candy out of reach of your dog as well as making sure your kids don't slip your pup a sweet treat. Many Halloween treats such as chocolate and xylitol (a sweetener used in many foods) are hazardous to pets.

3. Dogs in costumes are the cutest thing! Nowadays everyone is selling costumes specifically for dogs, however, that does not necessarily ensure their safety. Beads, snaps, buttons, ribbons, elastic and fabric can all be intestinal hazards. Never purchase costumes for pets that have dangling parts or pieces that can be chewed off. Keep in mind that costumes on your pet can result in overheating or impaired vision. Double check to make sure nothing it too tight or restrictive. Keep an eye on your pup while they are in the costume as well.

We hope everyone enjoys their Halloween / Harvest celebrations coming up. With a few safety trips your dog will enjoy it right along side of you!
